1. Why convert WebM to MP4

   Browser screen-recording features, many screen-capture tools, and video call recordings often save as WebM. It's great for playback on the web, but some video editors and certain phone apps or older devices don't import or play it well. Converting to MP4 (H.264) makes it much easier to bring into an editor or play back generally.

2. How to use it

   (1) The output format is already set to MP4 on this page. Drag and drop your WebM file onto the drop zone, or click it to choose one — once loaded, its resolution, length and codecs are shown. (2) Optionally set a resolution (original / 1080p / 720p / 480p) and quality (high / standard / light); for screen recordings with a lot of text, 'high' quality helps keep text sharp. (3) Press convert; a progress bar tracks the encode, and a download button plus a before/after size comparison appear once it finishes.

3. What happens to the video and audio

   WebM is usually VP8/VP9 video with Opus audio. Converting to MP4 always re-encodes to H.264 video with AAC audio (falling back to Opus if AAC isn't available), producing the most broadly compatible MP4 for editors and social platforms alike. This uses the browser's built-in WebCodecs API to encode with your device's hardware (GPU), so it's relatively fast.

4. FAQ

   My screen recording (WebM) won't import into my video editor.

   Some editors don't support WebM import. Converting to MP4 makes it something most editors can drop straight onto a timeline.

   Will text get blurry in a converted screen recording?

   Setting quality to 'high' keeps text and fine lines sharper, at the cost of a larger file.

   Does WebM's Opus audio survive the conversion to MP4?

   The audio is automatically re-encoded to AAC (falling back to Opus if unavailable) for the best compatibility with MP4.

   Is my file uploaded anywhere?

   No — the video is processed entirely inside your browser and never sent to a server.
